In 1998 I made The Space Between Things, a project in Santiago, Chile. I covered the floors of these abandoned houses and buildings, with thin layers of powdered pigments. More than imposing themselves in the place, these interventions revealed what was already there: the drawing of a wood floor, the outline of a door, forgotten objects. The deposits of pigment occupied the space to produce a discontinuity. Laid out on the floor, they altered and interrupted the transit, one could not circulate without destroying the "drawing". The imprints of the space became the main characters: traces, stains, debris, dust.
