This project – the rearrangement of a visual archive- was made from two sources. First, a selection of scenes from 40 films -mostly from the Hollywood industry-, shot in Latin America. These scenes were ranked numerically according to the English names and number of selected fragments. This material served as the basis for editing 5 videos, in five categories (guerrillas and drug dealers; military; people and natives; politics and corruption; and travel and frontiers) in an order determinated by the file.
A second file was built with headlines (print screen) about Latin America, published in two leading newspapers of Santiago, from late November 2010 (when Wikileaks released 250,000 U.S. government diplomatic documents) to December 31, 2011 (the year of preparation of the Outside the Edge project). These images have been animated in stop motion, and used as a mask -in strict sequential order- over the video footage of Latin America.
